Project Details
Project Context
This project involved a full-scale lighting installation for a large house of worship in Germantown, Tennessee. While the end client was the church, our team was contracted through Paragon 360 and integrated into a larger multi-discipline installation environment. The scope was extensive, the room geometry was complex, and the project required sustained on-site lighting leadership across multiple weeks, followed by return visits for commissioning alongside the lighting designer.
Our Responsibility
Lumen Design provided on-site lighting leadership and execution for the entire lighting scope. This included managing a five-person lighting crew, coordinating directly with electricians and other trades, and ensuring the installation aligned with both the construction drawings and real-world site conditions. We worked closely with the lighting designer to translate design intent into a functional, properly installed system, taking ownership of lighting installation from hang through system readiness and commissioning support.
Execution & Problem Solving
As with most large installations, the drawings were only the starting point. Several challenges emerged during execution that required adaptation and technical problem-solving on site. Fixture access and focus presented challenges due to room geometry and access limitations. Control integration required custom fixture profiles on the Hog 4 console to ensure full functionality of the installed wash fixtures. Scenic integration constraints also required careful coordination to complete architectural lighting elements cleanly and safely. These issues were resolved through collaboration, planning, and hands-on execution without disrupting the overall project schedule.
Outcome
The lighting system was installed, focused, and commissioned successfully in collaboration with the lighting designer. Despite the complexity of the space and the challenges encountered, the project was completed without schedule disruption. The final system supported the architectural, scenic, and operational goals of the venue while providing a reliable and maintainable lighting infrastructure.
